Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan rewrote the record books with a 167-run stand against Rajasthan Royals in Qualifier 2. The Gujarat Titans openers registered their 11th century partnership in T20 cricket, the most by any pair in history, while helping GT secure a place in the IPL 2026 final.
May 30, 2026: Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill and opener Sai Sudharsan created history with another brilliant batting performance on Friday, May 29. The star opening pair put together a stunning 167-run partnership against the Rajasthan Royals in Qualifier 2 and helped the Gujarat Titans book their place in the IPL 2026 final.
Gill and Sudharsan have been the backbone of GT's batting lineup throughout the season. They have produced several big partnerships together, and their stand in Qualifier 2 turned out to be a record-breaking one. With this partnership, the duo now holds the record for the most 100-plus stands by any pair in men's T20 cricket.
The two batters have now shared 11 century partnerships in just 48 innings. They moved ahead of some of the biggest batting pairs in T20 history. Before this match, they were tied on 10 century stands with Virat Kohli and Chris Gayle, Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, and Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers.

Biggest Partnership in IPL Playoff History
Gill and Sudharsan's 167-run stand is also the highest partnership for any wicket in IPL playoff history. They broke the previous record of 159 runs set by Michael Hussey and Murali Vijay for Chennai Super Kings against Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL 2011 final.
The partnership finally ended in an unfortunate manner when Sai Sudharsan was dismissed hit-wicket by Brijesh Sharma in the 13th over. Interestingly, this was the second consecutive match in which Sudharsan was dismissed hit-wicket, having suffered the same fate in Qualifier 1 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
Sudharsan scored a valuable 58 runs before his dismissal, while Gill continued his brilliant innings. The GT skipper was already batting on 95 when Sudharsan got out. Gill reached his century in the very next over with a boundary off Ravindra Jadeja.
Gill remained the star of the chase with a magnificent 104-run knock. His innings guided the Gujarat Titans to a successful chase of 215 runs in Mullanpur, New Chandigarh.
The 215-run chase is now the highest successful run chase in IPL playoff history. It is also the second-highest successful chase in a T20 knockout match. Only Mumbai's 222-run chase against Vidarbha in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024 quarter-final ranks higher.
With the win, the Gujarat Titans secured their place in the IPL 2026 final, and the record-breaking partnership between Gill and Sudharsan once again proved why they are one of the most successful opening pairs in T20 cricket today.
