Sindhu beats Marin in straight sets to clinch India Open title
Indian Olympic Silver medal winner PV Sindhu reclaimed glory as she beat the Gold winner at Rio, Marin, in straight sets to clinch her maiden India Open title
Clinching her fifth win against Spanish shuttler Carolina Marin, Indian Rio Silver Medalist PV Sindhu secured her maiden India Open World Superseries title.
Sindhu gave her best performance yet to beat Marin 21-19, 21-16 in a 46 minute summit clash, securing her first India Open title. Sindhu had earlier beaten Indian mate Saina Nehwal in the Quarterfinal and Sung ji-Hyun in the Semis before beating the Olympic champion to take home the cup.
Showing character to win her second Superseries title, Sindhu looked in control of the match and dominated from the very beginning. Sindhu’s net approach during the entire match was her strong point during the entire match. After winning the first neck-to-neck first game 21-19, Sindhu took a explosive start to the second game, securing the first four points. However, Marin did come back but by halftime, the four point gap was visible as the halftime score landed at 11-7. Keeping her momentum and score gap in place, Sindhu got across to the title in the 46th minute.
