January 10, 2026: Star Indian badminton player PV Sindhu crashed out of the ongoing Malaysia Open 2025 after losing in the semi-final. She faced China’s Wang Zhiyi, who is currently ranked world number two. Wang dominated the match and defeated Sindhu in straight games.

Wang Zhiyi beat Sindhu 21-16, 21-15 to seal her place in the final. This match was Sindhu’s first tournament since returning from a foot injury that had kept her out of action since October last year. In the second game, Sindhu had an 11-6 lead but failed to maintain it and eventually lost the game.

Despite the loss, Sindhu had a good run in the tournament. Her defeat in the semi-final also marked the end of India’s campaign at the Malaysia Open.

Earlier in the tournament, Sindhu defeated SY Sung in the round of 64 by scores of 21-13 and 22-20. She then beat T. Miyazaki in the round of 32 with scores of 21-8 and 21-13. Sindhu also secured a win over Akane Yamaguchi in the quarter-final before losing to Wang Zhiyi in the semi-final.
