July 14, 2025 - Indian team’s star fast bowler Mohammed Siraj has been fined by the ICC for breaking the code of conduct. The 31-year-old Siraj has been fined 15 percent of his match fee for a Level 1 violation of the ICC Code of Conduct. Siraj's behaviour came under scrutiny during an argument with England opener Ben Duckett on the fourth day of the third Test match of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 (India vs England Test 2025).
There was drama on the field after Siraj took the wicket of Duckett. He celebrated aggressively by going up very close to him and giving him a stare. Their shoulders touched at that point.
This incident happened in the sixth over of England's innings. On the last ball of the over, Duckett tried to play a ramp shot, but Siraj had already guessed it. He bowled a short ball and Duckett was caught by Jasprit Bumrah.
Siraj was found guilty by the ICC of breaking Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct. This rule is about using bad language, actions or gestures while celebrating a batsman's dismissal, or trying to provoke the batsman.
The ICC punished Siraj for his aggressive celebration. He was fined 15% of his match fee for this act. Along with the fine, the ICC also took disciplinary action against him.
In addition to the fine, Siraj also got one demerit point added to his record. This is his second offense in 24 months, so now Siraj has two demerit points.
If a player gets four or more demerit points in 24 months, those points are changed into suspension points, and the player gets banned from matches.
