Four given Khel Ratna and 32 given Arjuna Awards at a ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhawan today, January 17
January 17, 2025 - Indian President Droupadi Murmu honoured 32 athletes with the Arjuna Award today at the National Sports Awards ceremony held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, Delhi. Four sportspersons were conferred the Khel Ratna Award at the function.
Manu Bhaker, double Olympic medallist shooter, D. Mukesh, world chess champion, Harmanpreet Singh, two-time Olympic medallist and men’s hockey captain, and Praveen Kumar, Paralympic gold medal-winning high jumper, were given the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award.
Of the Arjuna Award winners, 17 of them were para-athletes who brought home 29 medals, including seven gold, nine silver and 13 bronze, from the Paralympic Games.
Manu Bhaker became India’s first athlete to win two medals in a single edition of the Olympics with a bronze in the 10m air pistol individual event and 10m air pistol mixed team event.
