Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and long-serving head coach Stephen Fleming have mutually agreed to part ways, closing a remarkable 17-year association that helped shape the franchise into one of the most successful teams in the IPL.

The franchise confirmed the decision in an official statement on Monday, saying it was made after a series of open and honest discussions between Fleming and the team management.

"The Super Kings and Stephen Fleming have decided to mutually part ways, bringing to a close one of the most successful and enduring partnerships in the history of the Indian Premier League. The decision was reached with respect and gratitude, following a series of open and honest discussions between Fleming and the Super Kings management," the franchise said.

Fleming first joined CSK as a player during the inaugural IPL season in 2008 under the captaincy of MS Dhoni. After the team finished runners-up that year, he was appointed head coach ahead of the 2009 season.

Over the next 17 years, Fleming built one of the most successful coaching careers in IPL history. Under his leadership, CSK won five IPL titles and two Champions League T20 trophies. The franchise also reached the IPL playoffs a record 12 times and appeared in 10 finals, establishing itself as one of the league's most consistent teams.

A Legendary Era Comes to an End

In his farewell message, Fleming expressed gratitude for his long association with the franchise.

"Eighteen years is a lifetime in sport, and I leave with nothing but gratitude. My time with Chennai Super Kings has been the privilege of my coaching career. I am proud of everything we have achieved."

Fleming shared an iconic partnership with former captain MS Dhoni, playing a key role in creating the team's culture of consistency, discipline and success. Their combination became one of the defining partnerships in IPL history.

However, CSK's performances have declined over the past three seasons. The five-time champions failed to qualify for the playoffs in each of those campaigns, raising questions about the team's strategy and squad composition.
