Sialkot Stallionz Officially Sign Steve Smith ahead of PSL 2026

 |

January 3, 2026: Sialkot Stallionz, the newest team in the Pakistan Super League, on Tuesday confirmed the signing of former Australia captain Steve Smith for the 11th edition of the PSL. The tournament will be played from March 26 to May 3.

The team announced the signing on its official social media pages. This is the first and biggest direct signing made by the franchise.

The Stallionz signed the right-handed batter under the new rule that allows each team to make one direct foreign signing.

Smith has played in top leagues around the world, including the Big Bash League (BBL), The Hundred, Indian Premier League (IPL), Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), and Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

About Sialkot Stallionz

Sialkot Stallionz are one of the two new teams introduced in the Pakistan Super League. The team is owned by OZ Developers, led by Hamza Majeed and Kamil Khan. The ownership rights were bought during the PSL 2026 auction for a record Rs 1.85 billion, making it the most expensive franchise in PSL history.

From the very beginning, the Stallionz have carried a premium image. However, a high price only matters if it is matched with big ambition β€” and signing Steve Smith shows exactly that.

Steve Smith Brings Star Power and Form

Steve Smith, who has never played in the PSL before, is set to make his debut in the league. He comes in after a brilliant Big Bash League season with Sydney Sixers. Smith scored 299 runs in six matches, with an average of 59.80 and a strike rate of 167.97. His season included an impressive 42-ball century.

Overall, Smith has played 272 T20 matches. He has scored 6,242 runs at an average of 32.68 and a strike rate of 131.38, with five centuries and 30 half-centuries.

Under PSL 11 rules, teams are allowed to directly sign one foreign player who did not play in PSL 10, which made Smith’s signing possible.

The Stallionz are also following an Australian style approach. They have already appointed former Australia wicketkeeper-batter Tim Paine as head coach. Smith is expected to play under Paine, his former international teammate. Both Paine and Smith made their Test debuts in the same match against Pakistan in 2010, making this reunion even more special.

Smith’s arrival is a big moment not just for Sialkot Stallionz, but for the PSL as a whole, as the league moves into a new era with eight teams.
