Stokes Creates History with 50+ Runs and 5 Wickets in a Test
July 26, 2025 - England Test team captain Ben Stokes is playing well in the five-match Test series against India. He is leading the team from the front, performing with both bat and ball.
The match being played at Old Trafford in Manchester is no different. Stokes performed brilliantly again and created history.
The skipper scored 77 runs and was not out till the end of the third day. Before troubling Team India with the bat, he had already troubled them with the ball. In the first innings, he took five wickets and stopped India from making a big score.
This is the first time in 89 years that an England captain has scored more than 50 runs and taken five wickets in the same Test match. Before him, Stanley Jackson had done this in 1905 and Gabby Allen in 1936. Both had made this record against Australia.
In this match, Stokes was also troubled by an injury, and because of that, he retired hurt. He went off the field when he was on 66 runs because of pain in his legs, which forced him to leave.
This was the first time in his international career that Stokes retired hurt. However, he returned later and continued batting.
