Sunrisers Hyderabad go top of IPL 2026 table with 33-run win over Punjab Kings
Sunrisers Hyderabad beat Punjab Kings by 33 runs to go top of the IPL 2026 points table. Klaasen and Kishan star in dominant win.
May 07, 2026: Sunrisers Hyderabad produced a dominant all-round performance to defeat Punjab Kings by 33 runs and climb to the top of the IPL 2026 points table on Wednesday. Batting first on a flat surface, SRH posted a massive 235/4, powered by impactful half-centuries from Heinrich Klaasen and Ishan Kishan. Klaasen continued his impressive run with a fluent 69 off 43 balls, while Kishan contributed a brisk 55 off 32 deliveries.
The platform, however, was set early in the innings, as Abhishek Sharma (35 off 13) and Travis Head (38 off 19) launched a fierce assault during the powerplay, taking SRH to 79/1 in the first six overs. Punjab Kings’ fielding lapses further hurt their chances, with multiple dropped catches and a missed stumping allowing SRH to convert a strong start into a daunting total. Nitish Kumar Reddy then provided the finishing touches with a quickfire 29* off 13 balls.

PBKS fall short despite Connolly’s lone fight
In reply, Punjab Kings never truly recovered from a shaky start, managing only 57/3 in the powerplay. Captain Pat Cummins led from the front with early breakthroughs, exposing weaknesses in PBKS’s top order, while Eshan Malinga kept things tight with disciplined bowling. Cooper Connolly stood out with a valiant unbeaten 107 off 59 balls, showing great composure under pressure, but received little support from the other end as wickets continued to fall at regular intervals. SRH’s bowlers maintained control throughout the chase, with Cummins (2/34) and Malinga (1/34) playing key roles in restricting the scoring rate during crucial phases.
We have a new leader at the top in @Sunrisers 🌟🧡

Punjab’s defeat was further compounded by their poor fielding display, which included three dropped catches and several lapses in the outfield. Their bowlers also struggled to contain the flow of runs, with Marco Jansen and Arshdeep Singh conceding heavily. In the end, PBKS finished at 202/7, falling well short of the target. With this comprehensive win, SRH registered their seventh victory of the season and moved to 14 points, strengthening their position in the race for the playoffs. PBKS, meanwhile, slumped to their third consecutive defeat and continue to struggle for consistency in IPL 2026.
