The District Sports Council, Udaipur, has bought 14 Canoe/Kayaks meant for promotion of water sports and to serve as a tourist attraction in the Lake Fateh Sagar as announced in the press conference held today.

The District Sports Council, Udaipur, has bought 14 Canoe/Kayaks meant for promotion of water sports and to serve as a tourist attraction in the Lake Fateh Sagar as announced in the press conference held today.

National Sports Council has agreed to provide an international trainer for Canoeing. Interested applicants will be able to apply in 15 days at Fateh Sagar for 3 divisions – Sub-Junior for Under-14, Junior for Under-19 and Senior Division for above-19 applicants.

There are 8 Kayaks/Canoes, 520 cm long weighing 12 kg, with a maximum capacity of 1 person. Four kayak/canoes, 650 cm long, weighing18 kg with a capacity of two persons and two Canoes/Kayaks, 1100 cm, weighing 30 kg with a maximum capacity of 4 people.

“There will be 200m, 500m, 1km, and 5km events in both the water sports. We hope to organize an international level competition in Udaipur”, mentioned the representative of the District Sports Council in the press conference.

Also to mention, Kayaks are a type of Canoe. Quoting Wikipedia, “When exactly a canoe can be called a kayak is difficult to determine though, and often arbitrary. Internationally, the term canoeing is used as a generic term for both forms though the terms “paddle sports” or “canoe/kayak” are also used.”

Freestyle Kayaking is one of many disciples administered internationally by umbrella organization International Canoe Federation and India is one of the 147 affiliated countries by the federation. Canoeing and Kayaking are recognized Olympic Sports.
