Udaipur, December 13, 2024 - Chess players of Udaipur yesterday celebrated the victory of India’s Gukesh Dommaraju who has been crowned the youngest-ever chess world champion in the history of the sport. The players said that this achievement will give a new dimension to chess across the country.
Officials of the sportsclub Chess In Lakecity, extended their congratulations to the youngsters. These included patron Tushar Mehta, president Rajeev Bhardwaj, vice-president Dr Om Sahu, Rajendra Teli from Rajasthan State Association and advocate Manish Mogra. Coach Vikas Sahu shared that he had met Gukesh during a competition in Mumbai in 2020, where they had had extensive discussions about the game.
The 18 year old defeated China’s Ding Liren 7.5-6.5 in the 2024 FIDE World Chess Championship in Singapore yesterday.
