The construction is expected to be completed by next year...
The construction of the Salim Durrani Residential Sports School has begun in Udaipur's Khelgaon. This will be the first sports school in the Udaipur division dedicated to training local sports talents.
The school is expected to admit around 250 young athletes. It will offer training in Archery, Kabaddi, and other popular sports in the area. Unlike the existing residential hockey academy run by the Tribal Department, this new school will provide free education, accommodation, and sports training all in one place.
The project is budgeted at Rs 13 crore and is managed by the Rajasthan State Road Development Corporation Limited (RSRDC). The construction is expected to be completed by next year.
The initiative is part of a larger plan announced in the 2023 budget by the previous Congress government, which allocated Rs 69.20 crore for similar schools in Udaipur, Kota, Bikaner, Ajmer, and Bharatpur divisions. Jaipur and Jodhpur had already been announced.
With the BJP now in power, new guidelines will be established for these schools. Decisions will be made on the sports to be offered and the number of students to be admitted. District Sports Officer Dr. Mahesh Paliwal noted that the foundation work is currently in progress.
