Udaipur, Aug 21, 2025: Good news has come for Indian cricket fans. Team India’s fast bowler is ready to return to the cricket field after 17 months. This update has caught everyone’s attention. The player had missed the entire 2024-25 domestic season and IPL 2025 because of injury and illness. Now, he is eager to get the cricket ball rolling off his hands once again.

The cricketer is Umran Malik, the fast bowler from Jammu and Kashmir, who regularly bowls at 150 to 155 kmph. After fully recovering from injury, he will make his comeback in the ongoing Buchi Babu Tournament and later in the Ranji Trophy.

The 25-year-old pacer is not playing in the first round of the Buchi Babu tournament, which began in Chennai on August 18. But he will play in the second-round match for Jammu and Kashmir against Baroda from August 22. Malik was last seen in IPL 2024. Since then, he needed a long recovery from hamstring and hip injuries. Now, after 17 months, he will finally return to cricket.

Talking to ESPNcricinfo about playing in the Buchi Babu tournament, Umran Malik said: “I am feeling good. I have not played cricket for a long time. I was injured for seven to eight months, and it was a tough period. It feels great to be back. I played many red-ball and T20 matches in Kashmir during our registration camp. Now we are in Chennai for the Buchi Babu tournament. It is good for my body workload. I am back and want to do well this season. That is my goal.”

He also added: “Now I will bowl in full rhythm. I am a player and do not focus on social media. I just want to protect my body from injuries and play good cricket. My aim is to play for India again.”

Umran’s Journey and Records

During his rehab, Umran Malik spent about six months at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (COE) in Bengaluru, where he worked with coaches and regained fitness.

Umran first caught attention in IPL 2022 when he bowled at 156.9 kmph for Sunrisers Hyderabad and took 22 wickets in the season. For India, he has taken 11 wickets in 8 T20Is and 13 wickets in 10 ODIs. In the IPL overall, he has 29 wickets in 26 matches.
