Vaibhav Suryavanshi Overtakes Shahid Afridi, Hammers 36-Ball Hundred in Vijay Hazare Trophy
Udaipur, Dec 24, 2025: The opening day of the Vijay Hazare Trophy was expected to focus on Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. They were playing the tournament after 15 years and 7 years. However, a 14-year-old young player, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, took all the attention within the first hour of play. His innings of 190 off 84 balls gave Arunachal an unassailable target of 575 which they have to score off 50 overs.
Playing for Bihar against Arunachal Pradesh, Vaibhav smashed a 36-ball century. With this knock, he broke Shahid Afridi’s record for the fastest century in List A cricket. Afridi had scored a 37-ball hundred against Sri Lanka in an ODI in 1996.
Vaibhav’s century is now the joint fourth-fastest in the history of One-Day cricket. He equals Corey Anderson in this record. Among Indian players, this is the second-fastest List A century. The fastest belongs to Anmolpreet Singh, who scored a 35-ball hundred for Punjab against Arunachal Pradesh last season.
Vaibhav also went past Yusuf Pathan, who had scored a 40-ball century for Baroda against Maharashtra in 2010. Urvil Patel and Abhishek Sharma are the other players on this list. They scored centuries in 41 and 42 balls for their teams.
