Varanasi Gifts Banarasi Sarees to Indian Cricketers’ Families Before T20 World Cup 2026

February 4, 2026: Varanasi is showing a new and meaningful expression of love as India prepares for the T20 World Cup. The holy city, famous for its Banarasi sarees, will gift these traditional handwoven sarees to the families of Indian cricketers. This campaign, led by the Ministry of MSME, reflects respect, culture, and national pride. It brings together tradition and sport through the skilled work of Banarasi weavers and the spirit of cricket.
Cricketers’ families often remain in the background while the players shine on the field. However, they are the true source of strength, motivation, and emotional support. By gifting sarees to these families, Varanasi is honouring their importance in the journey of the “Men in Blue.” This gesture also shows unity, as cricket connects millions of Indians just like Banarasi sarees represent the heart of Indian culture.
The Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises plays an important role in this initiative. By distributing the sarees through the ministry, the government ensures that local weavers and craftsmen receive direct support. For the weavers of Varanasi, this is not just work but recognition. Their creations will reach the families of national cricket heroes, making them feel proud to be part of India’s sporting story.

Cricket Motifs on Banarasi Sarees
What makes these sarees truly special is their design. They will feature cricket-inspired patterns such as trophies and important tournament years like 1992, 1996, 2015 (Women’s World Cup), and 2024. These details turn the sarees into storytelling pieces that connect the history of Indian cricket with the rich art of handloom weaving.
These sarees are not just garments. They stand as symbols of India’s cricket journey, celebrating victories, struggles, and the shared joy that the sport brings to the nation.
ICC Warns Pakistan Over India Match at T20 World Cup 2026
Pakistan will take part in this month’s T20 World Cup 2026 but will not play their scheduled match against co-host India on February 15 at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Pakistan had earlier considered pulling out of the tournament after Bangladesh withdrew, citing safety concerns about travelling to India.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has now issued a strong warning to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). The ICC has asked the board to find a fair and acceptable solution that protects the interests of all parties involved, especially for the match against India. The ICC also made it clear that selective participation in the tournament will not be allowed under any circumstances.
The ICC is expected to hold an important meeting with its member boards before the tournament begins to discuss the issue. The council is keen to ensure that the India vs Pakistan match goes ahead as planned. In its statement, the ICC said that selective participation does not fit with the spirit and rules of a global sporting event.
