Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced that residents not covered under Ayushman Bharat will receive health insurance worth up to ₹5 lakh through the Chief Minister's Health Insurance Scheme. The announcement was made during a public meeting in Rejinagar, Murshidabad.
July 10, 2026: Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Friday announced that people who are not covered under the Centre's Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme will receive health coverage of up to ₹5 lakh under the Chief Minister's Health Insurance Scheme.
Addressing a public meeting in Rejinagar, Murshidabad, the Chief Minister said the government is committed to ensuring that every eligible resident has access to quality healthcare. He assured the public that no one would be left without health insurance benefits simply because they were excluded from Ayushman Bharat.
"We will provide Ayushman Bharat benefits to eligible beneficiaries. Those who do not receive the benefits under this scheme will be covered under the Chief Minister's Health Insurance Scheme with insurance coverage of up to ₹5 lakh," Adhikari said during the rally.
The announcement comes as the implementation of Ayushman Bharat in the state gathers pace. The enrolment process is currently underway, with application forms being filled across different districts. However, many people have been uncertain about the eligibility criteria and whether they will be included in the Central government's flagship health insurance programme.
Addressing these concerns, the Chief Minister clarified that those who fail to qualify for Ayushman Bharat will still receive government-backed health insurance under a separate state scheme. According to him, the objective is to ensure that every eligible citizen has access to financial protection against medical expenses.

Separate Health Insurance Scheme for Those Left Out of Ayushman Bharat
During his address, Adhikari said the government aims to extend the benefits of Ayushman Bharat to nearly 6.5 crore people across the state. At the same time, he reiterated that beneficiaries who are not covered under the Central scheme will receive insurance benefits of up to ₹5 lakh through the Chief Minister's Health Insurance Scheme.
"Our government will provide Ayushman Bharat benefits to around 6.5 crore people. Those who do not come under this scheme will receive health insurance worth ₹5 lakh each through the Chief Minister's Health Insurance Scheme. We will also ensure that beneficiaries can avail treatment not only in hospitals across the state but also in empanelled hospitals in other states," he said.
The Chief Minister said the government's priority is to ensure that healthcare services remain accessible and affordable for all eligible residents, regardless of the scheme under which they receive coverage.
Announces Housing, Farmers' Welfare and Employment Initiatives
Apart from healthcare, Adhikari also spoke about several welfare programmes that the government plans to implement across the state.
He said the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) will be implemented smoothly to ensure that eligible beneficiaries receive housing assistance without unnecessary delays. He also assured that rural development projects, including the Gram Sadak initiative, will be carried out efficiently.
The Chief Minister further announced additional financial assistance for farmers under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme. According to him, the state government will provide an additional ₹3,000 over and above the ₹6,000 already provided annually by the Central government. As a result, eligible farmers will receive a total annual assistance of ₹9,000.
Highlighting the issue of migration from Murshidabad, Adhikari said the government is committed to creating more employment opportunities within the state. He stated that special efforts will be made to address the long-standing problem of migration by generating jobs and encouraging migrant workers to return home.
Concluding his address, the Chief Minister said the government's focus will remain on strengthening healthcare, improving rural infrastructure, supporting farmers, and expanding employment opportunities so that the benefits of development reach every section of society.
