What Happens If India vs Australia Semi-Final Gets Washed Out? Here’s Who Will Reach the Final
If the first day of the India vs Australia semi-final is washed out due to rain, the match will be played on the reserve day. Friday (October 31) has been kept as the reserve day for this match
Udaipur, Oct 28, 2025: The semi-finals of the ICC Women's ODI World Cup 2025 are in progress. Two semi-final matches will be played between four teams starting on October 29. India and Australia will face each other in the second semi-final on October 30 at 3:00 PM at the D.Y. Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. Before that, England and South Africa are playing the first semi-final on Wednesday at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati.
The host team, India, played their last two league matches at the D.Y. Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. Both matches were affected by rain. The India vs New Zealand match was rain-interrupted, but India won it. The next match against Bangladesh was abandoned due to rain.
Now, India will play the semi-final on the same ground, and this big match is also under the threat of rain. What will happen if the India vs Australia semi-final is cancelled due to rain? And which team will go to the final? Let’s find out.
What If the Semi-Final Doesn’t Take Place on Thursday?
According to the Navi Mumbai weather forecast for Thursday, there is more than a 50% chance of rain during the second half of the semi-final. If the first day of the India vs Australia semi-final is washed out due to rain, the match will be played on the reserve day. Friday (October 31) has been kept as the reserve day for this match.
As per ICC rules, there is a reserve day for all knockout matches in the World Cup (50-over games). But if the reserve day is also washed out and no play is possible, which team will reach the final? Let’s find out.
What If the Semi-Final Is Not Completed on the Reserve Day?
According to Section 13.6 of the ICC’s Conditions of Play, the semi-finals and final have a reserve day to continue an unfinished match. However, the weather forecast for October 31 is also not good, and rain is expected in the city on Friday.
As per ICC rules, both teams must play at least 20 overs each for a result in a 50-over match. If this is not possible, the match will be cancelled. In that case, Australia will go to the final because they finished higher than India in the league table and won more matches.
Australia and India’s League Stage Performance
Australia won 6 out of 7 league matches. Their second match against Sri Lanka was cancelled due to rain. India played 7 matches, winning 3, losing 3, and one match was cancelled.
If India wants to play in the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 final, they must win this match. Australia, however, will qualify even if the match is cancelled. The final will be played in Navi Mumbai on Sunday (November 2).
