Udaipur, Nov 29, 2025: Will Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli play in the 2027 World Cup? Both of them are no longer playing T20s and Tests. The ODI team will face South Africa from Sunday, where both superstars are present. After that, the board will hold discussions with them. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar and coach Gautam Gambhir will also be part of the talks.

After their performance against Australia, the board is watching closely how Ro-Ko will play against South Africa.

A source in the board told all-India media, “We expect a clear message from players like Rohit and Kohli. We need to know their role. They should not play with uncertainty.”

However, their performance against Australia did not fully satisfy the board officials. The source said, “They got runs in the third ODI, but by then the series was lost. The bowlers had created a match-winning situation, but they could not play well in the first two matches. That cannot happen in every series.”

Rohit and Kohli’s Fitness and Form Ahead of 2027 World Cup

Rohit will be 40 at the time of the World Cup, and Kohli will be 38. There will be questions about their form and fitness. Rohit has already been told to work on his fitness. Along with this, they will have to do one more thing to save their place in the team.

Board sources said, “Rohit should play fearlessly. The Australian pitch was tough, but Rohit did not want to take any risks. It is hoped that both of them will bat bravely and set an example for the youngsters.

Upcoming ODI Series Against South Africa and New Zealand

India will play only six ODIs against South Africa and New Zealand. Rohit and Virat will play the first ODI against the Proteas on November 30. The next two matches are on December 3 and 6. Then the series against New Zealand starts on January 11. The second and third ODIs will be on January 14 and 18. There will be a gap of 7 weeks between the South Africa and New Zealand series.
