Januay 10, 2026: The WPL 2026 season began with defending champions Mumbai Indians Women facing Royal Challengers Bengaluru Women. The match was played at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai on January 9.
Mumbai Indians batted first after losing the toss. They had a slow start, with openers Amelia Kerr and G Kamalini scoring 4 and 32 runs. Harmanpreet Kaur scored 20 runs, while Nicola Carey and Sajeevan Sajana added useful runs with scores of 40 and 45, respectively.
Mumbai Indians scored a total of 154 runs in the first innings. For RCB, Nadine de Klerk was the standout bowler, taking four wickets. Lauren Bell and Shreyanka Patil picked up one wicket each.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru started their run chase on a positive note. Openers Smriti Mandhana and Grace Harris scored 18 and 25 runs, respectively. However, Mumbai Indians kept taking key wickets and kept the match close.
Dayalan Hemalatha and Richa Ghosh were dismissed for 7 and 6 runs, while Radha Yadav managed only one run. Nadine de Klerk played a brilliant knock to guide RCB to victory. She remained unbeaten on 63 runs from 44 balls and helped her team beat Mumbai Indians Women by three wickets.
Her innings helped RCB start their WPL 2026 campaign with a strong win. For Mumbai Indians, Nicola Carey and Amelia Kerr took two wickets each. Nat Sciver-Brunt, Shabnim Ismail, and Amanjot Kaur picked up one wicket each.
