Yash Gameti Wins First-Ever Gold for Udaipur in Thang-Ta Championship
Representing BN University, Yash wins gold medal in his first outing for university-level games; it is the first-ever gold medal for Udaipur in the traditional martial art of Thang-Ta
Udaipur, April 11, 2026 - Talented athlete Yash Gameti from Udaipur has created history by winning a gold medal in the -46 kg weight category at the All India Inter-University Thang-Ta Championship 2026, held from April 6 to April 9, 2026, at Manipur University in Imphal.
Representing Bhupal Nobles (BN) University, Udaipur, Yash was participating in university-level games for the first time and bagged a gold in his debut. It is also the first-ever gold medal for Udaipur in the traditional martial art Thang-Ta.
Prafull Sanwaria, General Secretary of Thang-Ta Association of Udaipur, said this achievement will inspire upcoming athletes and give a new identity to traditional sports in Udaipur.
What is Thang-Ta
Thang-Ta is an ancient, self-defence Manipuri martial art, also known as The Art of the Sword and Spear. This sport is a movement-based martial art and performed in a dance-like, cultural display of valour with a skilful blend of combat techniques, weapons mastery and spiritual discipline .
