April 21, 2026: A shocking case of road rage and violence recently came to light in Mumbai, where police arrested three individuals, including the father-in-law of former Indian cricketer and Trinamool Congress MP Yusuf Pathan. The accused were booked for allegedly assaulting a man and his family in the Byculla area. According to reports, the group used bamboo sticks and other objects during the attack, leaving multiple people injured. The incident has not only raised concerns about rising cases of urban violence but has also drawn public attention due to its connection with a prominent political and sporting figure.

The altercation reportedly began after a vehicle passed through a waterlogged stretch and splashed water onto one of the accused. What started as a minor dispute quickly escalated into a serious confrontation, eventually turning violent. The situation intensified as the accused allegedly attacked the occupants of the vehicle, highlighting how small incidents can spiral into major conflicts in crowded city environments.

Legal Action and Investigation Details

Officials from Mumbai Police confirmed that the accused were taken into custody by Byculla police under several sections of the Indian Penal Code, including Sections 118(2), 115(2), 324, 352, 351(2), and 3(5). One individual involved in the case is still absconding. Authorities informed the court that the accused were clearly identified through CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts. During the investigation, police also recovered bamboo sticks and baseball bats allegedly used in the assault.

Investigators relied on a combination of surveillance footage, witness statements, and physical evidence to build a strong case. Officials stated that the recovery of weapons has further strengthened the prosecution’s claims. The charges include causing hurt and assault, underlining the seriousness of the incident and its impact on the victims and their family members.

Political Context and Pathan’s Response

Even as the legal proceedings continued in Mumbai, Yusuf Pathan remained active in the political landscape of West Bengal, where Assembly elections are currently underway. He recently participated in a roadshow in the Kharagpur Sadar constituency, campaigning for his party’s candidate.

Speaking to reporters, Pathan expressed confidence in his party’s chances. He said, “There is a positive environment here... There is a positive response from the people as well. Pradip Sarkar will win in this constituency, and Mamata Banerjee will come back to power.” He also addressed concerns over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, supporting Mamata Banerjee’s stance against alleged voter deletions.

Pathan described the issue as deeply concerning, stating, “Regarding SIR, I would say that it is very heartbreaking that injustice is being done to the eligible voters of our country. This is also an injustice to the right to vote that the Constitution provides.” He further praised Mamata Banerjee’s efforts, saying she stood up for affected voters and fought for their rights in court. Pathan added that she has consistently worked for the people and will continue to do so.
