2027 Yamaha MT-125 Facelift Revealed: Will India’s MT-15 Get This New Design?
Yamaha has revealed the updated 2027 MT-125 for the European market with a redesigned headlight, revised fuel tank, TFT display and modern features. The update has raised questions about whether India's popular Yamaha MT-15 could receive similar styling changes. Here are the key features, engine specifications, colour options and expected availability details.
October 25, 2026: Could Yamaha's popular naked motorcycle, the MT-15, get a major design update? The question has come up following the debut of the new 2027 Yamaha MT-125 facelift. Designed for the European market, the updated MT-125 features a new headlight design, a revised fuel tank, a modern TFT instrument cluster and several styling changes. Although the MT-125 is not sold in India, the MT-15 belongs to the same motorcycle family and is popular among Indian riders. This has raised interest in whether the new design could influence the Indian model in the future. However, Yamaha has not yet announced any plans for an MT-15 facelift.
Completely New Front Design
The biggest change to the new Yamaha MT-125 is at the front. The updated model features a sharper and more modern headlight cluster than the previous version. The LED lighting layout has also been revised. In the earlier model, the Bi-LED projector headlight was positioned below the daytime running lights. In the new version, the projector has been moved higher and is housed inside a transparent headlight cover.
These changes give the motorcycle a fresh look. The new front design also sets it apart from the aggressive, robot-inspired styling of the previous MT-125 and the current MT-15.
Changes to the Fuel Tank and Body Panels
Yamaha has also updated the fuel tank and its side shrouds. The new tank shrouds feature transparent elements and contrasting colours. They also serve as radiator covers. The LED turn indicators have been repositioned and appear to extend from the tank shrouds.
The updated motorcycle also gets dual-tone seat colours and redesigned side body panels, giving it a more distinctive appearance. Overall, the new MT-125 has a more modern look while retaining the aggressive styling associated with Yamaha's MT series.
TFT Display and Traction Control
The 2027 Yamaha MT-125 comes with a TFT instrument cluster that supports navigation and smartphone connectivity. Other features include traction control and a slipper clutch.
The motorcycle uses a 41 mm upside-down (USD) front fork and a rear monoshock suspension system. It is built around a Deltabox perimeter frame and features disc brakes at both ends, with a radially mounted front brake caliper. The swingarm also retains a sporty design.
These features make the updated MT-125 more than just a styling refresh. Its modern technology and equipment also strengthen its position as a premium 125cc motorcycle for the European market.
Engine Remains Unchanged
Despite the styling and equipment updates, the engine of the Yamaha MT-125 remains unchanged. It continues to use a 125cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine with SOHC and four-valve technology.
The key specifications of the 2027 Yamaha MT-125 are listed below:
| Specification | Details |
|---|---|
| Engine | 125cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder |
| Valve arrangement | SOHC, four valves |
| Maximum power | 15 PS |
| Maximum torque | 11.5 Nm |
| Gearbox | 6-speed |
| Front suspension | 41 mm USD fork |
| Rear suspension | Monoshock |
The engine is paired with a six-speed gearbox. As a result, the main updates to the 2027 model focus on design, technology and equipment rather than engine performance.
Four Colour Options
The 2027 Yamaha MT-125 is expected to be available in four colour options: Redline White, Ice Storm, Icon Blue and Tech Black. These colours, combined with the redesigned body panels and contrasting elements, give the motorcycle a fresh appearance.
The updated MT-125 is expected to reach European dealerships in the first quarter of 2027.
Will the Yamaha MT-15 Get the Same Design?
The big question for Indian buyers is whether Yamaha will introduce similar design changes to the MT-15. Both motorcycles share the naked styling theme of the MT series, so the updated MT-125 could offer an indication of the design direction Yamaha may consider for future models.
However, the MT-125 and MT-15 are designed for different markets. Therefore, there is no guarantee that all the changes introduced on the European model will be carried over to the Indian version.
Yamaha India has not yet announced a launch timeline or design updates for a new MT-15 facelift. There is also no confirmed announcement about the MT-125 coming to India.
For now, the new MT-125 has raised expectations among MT-15 fans, but Indian buyers will have to wait for an official announcement from Yamaha to know whether the popular motorcycle will receive a similar design update.
