October 26, 2026: Speculation is growing in the technology world about Apple's first touchscreen MacBook Pro. Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman reports that the upcoming 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models may feature OLED displays, touchscreen support and features such as Dynamic Island. The new laptops could also have a lighter design. However, these upgrades may lead to a price increase.

Apple is reportedly preparing an event called 'Pro and Tell' following the 'Welcome Home' event earlier this month. According to Gurman's Power On newsletter, the company may announce the new MacBook Pro models through a press release on October 28. The report also claims that Apple has organised a special showcase for selected media representatives in Los Angeles, where journalists may get an opportunity to try the new devices.

New MacBook Pro May Feature an OLED Display and Lighter Design

According to the report, the overall design of the new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models may remain similar to that of the current versions. However, the new laptops could be slightly lighter. The biggest change may be in the display, with Apple reportedly considering OLED technology instead of the mini-LED panels used in current high-end MacBook Pro models.

OLED technology can deliver deeper blacks and improved contrast, potentially offering a better viewing experience. However, the report does not provide detailed information about the display's brightness, refresh rate or other technical specifications.

Dynamic Island May Replace the Notch

Reports suggest that Apple may introduce Dynamic Island instead of the traditional notch at the top of the new MacBook Pro display. Currently available on the iPhone, Dynamic Island displays notifications, ongoing activities and other important information.

Bringing this feature to the MacBook Pro could introduce a new way to display alerts and ongoing activities in macOS. However, Apple has not officially confirmed whether Dynamic Island will be included or explained how it might work on a laptop.

Will the New MacBook Pro Use M5 Pro and M5 Max Chips?

Although major changes to the display and touchscreen experience are expected, the new models may not feature a new generation of processors. According to Gurman's report, the upcoming MacBook Pro models could continue to use the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips found in the current lineup.

If this report is accurate, the main attractions of the new models could be the OLED display, touchscreen support and an updated macOS interface. Instead of focusing on a major processor upgrade, Apple may prioritise changes to how users interact with their laptops.

macOS May Get a New Interface for Touchscreen Use

The report suggests that the new touchscreen MacBook Pro could run a new version of macOS, reportedly called 'macOS Golden Gate'. The interface may adapt to the user's preferred input method, whether they use their fingers, a trackpad or a keyboard.

When users touch the screen, certain control buttons may change to make them easier to use. Menus could also appear around the point where a user touches a button. The Dock and Menu Bar may receive adjustments to improve touchscreen usability.

However, the touchscreen is reportedly being designed as an additional input option rather than a replacement for the keyboard and trackpad. Users may be able to switch between touch controls, the trackpad and the keyboard depending on the task.

How Much Could the New MacBook Pro Cost in India?

Adding an OLED display and touchscreen support could make the new MacBook Pro more expensive than the current mini-LED models. According to the report, the current 14-inch MacBook Pro configurations with M5 Pro and M5 Max chips start at approximately ₹2,24,900 in the US market, based on a conversion of the reported starting price of $2,499. The 16-inch model, with a reported starting price of $2,999, converts to approximately ₹2,69,900.

The report estimates that the new OLED touchscreen models could cost up to ₹45,000 more, based on a conversion of the potential $500 price increase. These figures are approximate currency conversions, not confirmed Indian retail prices. Actual Indian prices may differ because of taxes, duties, pricing policies and configuration choices.

Apple has not announced the official prices of the upcoming models in India. Buyers will have to wait for an official announcement to learn the final pricing and availability details.

Current MacBook Pro Models May Remain on Sale

The report also suggests that Apple may continue selling the current mini-LED MacBook Pro models for some time after introducing the OLED touchscreen versions. The company could discontinue the older models gradually at a later stage.

The next MacBook Pro lineup could bring significant changes to display technology and the way users interact with their laptops. However, details about the OLED display, touchscreen support, Dynamic Island, macOS Golden Gate and pricing remain unconfirmed until Apple makes an official announcement.
