Digi Yatra system offers enhanced data security compared to traditional methods such as photocopying IDs...
The Digi Yatra initiative, initially launched for streamlined airport check-ins across India, is set to expand its scope to include tourists from Pakistan According to Suresh Khadakbhavi, CEO of the Digi Yatra Foundation, plans are underway to introduce a biometric-based check-in system at various public places beyond airports.
Currently utilized in select airports, the facial recognition technology of Digi Yatra is expected to be implemented in hotels, railways, and historical monuments across the country. This expansion aims to simplify the check-in process for foreign visitors, replacing hectic procedures like reporting to local police stations or registration at Foreign Regional Registration Offices (FRRO).
Mr. Khadakbhavi mentioned that the citizens from specific countries, like Pakistan, must notify the nearest police station of their arrival and intended departure within 24 hours at each place they stay. Tourists from other countries holding visas for over 180 days must register at the Foreign Regional Registration Office (FRRO).
Khadakbhavi highlighted that the Digi Yatra system offers enhanced data security compared to traditional methods such as photocopying IDs. Instead of storing sensitive information directly, the system uses unique numerical codes to identify passengers, ensuring that personal details like Aadhaar numbers or passport information remain secure even in the event of a breach.
The initiative has already progressed beyond the conceptual stage, with discussions underway with various ministries including Tourism and Railways. This collaboration aims to integrate Digi Yatra seamlessly into the existing infrastructure, benefiting both law enforcement agencies and the tourism sector by improving efficiency and security in visitor managemen
