Saudi Arabia has introduced a groundbreaking self-driving aerial taxi service specifically for pilgrims during this year's Hajj season, as reported by the state news agency SPA on June 12, 2024.

Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser, Saudi Minister of Transport and Logistic Services, hailed the launch as a milestone, highlighting it as the world's inaugural civil aviation authority-licensed flying taxi service.

The electric flying taxi aims to efficiently transport pilgrims between holy sites, expedite medical emergencies and supply transfers, and facilitate the delivery of goods. This service marks a pioneering initiative, unprecedented in any market globally.

The inaugural event witnessed the vertical takeoff of the autonomous vehicle, attended by key figures including Abdulaziz Al-Duailej, president of the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA), and Rumaih Al-Rumaih, Deputy Minister of Transport and Logistics Services.

Saudi Arabia's introduction of this innovative aerial taxi service is set to redefine transportation standards during the annual Hajj pilgrimage, providing enhanced efficiency and safety for pilgrims and essential services alike.
