Feb 18, 2026 - The Noida-based Galgotias University was on Wednesday (February 18) allegedly asked to vacate its exhibition stall at the India AI Impact Summit in New Delhi after a row erupted over a robotic dog showcased at its booth.

The controversy broke out after a video clip of a professor at the University showcasing a robot as developed in-house went viral drawing sharp criticism online after the robot was identified as being Chinese manufactured. The robot — displayed under the name “Orion” — was identified by observers and media as the Unitree Go2, a commercially available Chinese-manufactured robotic dog, not a technology developed in-house by the university. The University, in the presentation video, claimed the robodog had been developed by it under an AI initiative of Rs 350 crore.

This incident caused a major backlash on social media after users revealed that the Unitree Go2 is a commercially available Chinese-manufactured robot that can be easily purchased in the market for around Rs 2.3 lakh.

The university later tried to do damage control by issuing a statement that read, “Let us be clear - Galgotias has not built this robodog, nor have we claimed... Our students are experimenting with it, testing its limits, and in the process, expanding their own knowledge.”

However, as per reports the government and event organisers asked the university to vacate the AI Summit Expo, viewing the situation as misrepresentation in a flagship AI event.
