Google Maps India to Get AI-Powered Features

AI Gemini to enable continuous voice interaction for directions, real-time traffic, eating options and accident alerts

Nov 7, 2025 - Google Maps has announced 10 new updates tailored specifically for its India market aimed at making daily commuting a seamless experience with the addition of more safety and navigation-friendly features. One of the key upgrades is the integration of Google Maps with AI Gemini. This feature, which will soon be available in India, will provide a hands-free driving experience without the need to touch the screen to ask for directions.

With AI Gemini, you can keep speaking, and the AI will respond continuously. You can search for places, find charging stations, share estimated arrival times with friends, add events to your calendar and even ask for news or sports updates.

Google Maps new updates will be available for both Android and iOS users.

Key Features Are:

Traffic Alert

You can just ask and get update traffic conditions. For example: “There’s an accident here” or “Road ahead is flooded.” Even if you are not actively navigating, Maps will alert you about traffic jams or other road updates. Maps will alert users in advance about accident-prone areas.

Landmark-based Directions

Instead of saying “Turn right in 500 feet,” Google Maps will now use landmarks like shops, petrol pumps or iconic city centres like for example: “Turn left after Lok Kala Mandal.” It has 250 million landmark details.

Camera-based Place Recognition

Pick up your phone and turn on the camera. Pins will appear for restaurants, cafes, and shops. You can ask: “Why is this place popular?”

Gemini will provide summaries of places. When you look at a shop or restaurant on Maps, Gemini will analyse reviews and provide recommendations. For restaurants, it can show parking availability and most popular dishes.

Parking/Shopping

Gemini will analyse user data to suggest parking or shopping alternatives before crowded areas.

Real-time Updates with NHAI

Google Maps is partnered with National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to show real-time data on road closures and repairs. And will provide information on petrol stations and restrooms.

Speed Limit Alert

Maps will show the speed limit next to the speedometer, helping users drive according to regulations when driving in other cities.

Benefits for Two-Wheelers

While riding a bike, voice instructions through headphones will guide you clearly on what to do.
