August 14, 2026: In India, many smartphone buyers want either Apple’s top-end iPhone or Samsung’s flagship Galaxy model. With the launch of the iPhone 18 Pro Max, buyers now have another premium option to consider. The device features the new A20 Pro chipset, Siri AI, new colour options, an upgraded camera system and improved heat dissipation.

The 256GB model of the iPhone 18 Pro Max starts at Rs 1,79,900 in India. Apple started taking pre-orders on September 12, and the phone will go on sale from September 18. On the other hand, the Galaxy S26 Ultra was launched at a higher price but is currently available for around Rs 1,30,999 across major retail channels. To help you make a better decision, here is a complete specification-wise comparison between the iPhone 18 Pro Max and Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra.

1. Performance and Software

The iPhone 18 Pro Max is powered by Apple’s A20 Pro chip, which is built on a 2-nanometre process. It has a six-core CPU, seven-core GPU and 32-core Neural Engine. The phone also features a large vapour chamber to control temperatures during heavy workloads. It comes with 12GB of RAM and up to 2TB of storage.

The Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, which is built on a 3-nanometre process and has a maximum clock speed of up to 4.74GHz. The 256GB and 512GB models come with 12GB of RAM, while the 1TB model has 16GB of RAM. The Galaxy S26 Ultra runs on Android 16 and One UI 8.5 and promises seven years of software updates.

2. Display and Design

Both flagship phones feature a 6.9-inch display with an adaptive 120Hz refresh rate. Apple’s Super Retina XDR OLED panel has a resolution of 1320×2868, while Samsung offers a QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a resolution of 3120×1440.

The iPhone 18 Pro Max uses a Grade 5 titanium frame with Ceramic Shield Glass and a small Dynamic Island. Samsung uses Armor Aluminum 3 with Gorilla Glass Armor 2 on the front and Victus 2 on the back.

One of Samsung’s biggest display additions is its hardware-based Privacy Display, which reduces the visibility of the screen for people sitting next to the user. Both phones are rated IP68 for dust and water resistance.

3. Camera

Apple has equipped the iPhone 18 Pro Max with a 48-megapixel main camera featuring a mechanical variable aperture. This allows the lens to physically control the amount of light entering the sensor. It is joined by a 48-megapixel ultra-wide camera and a telephoto system. The front camera is an 18-megapixel Center Stage sensor with autofocus.

Samsung has taken a different approach with a 200-megapixel primary camera with an f/1.4 aperture. It is accompanied by a 50-megapixel ultra-wide camera, a 10-megapixel 3x telephoto camera and a 50-megapixel 5x periscope camera capable of up to 100x Space Zoom. The phone also has a 12-megapixel autofocus selfie camera.

4. Battery and Charging

According to Apple, the iPhone 18 Pro Max can offer up to 45 hours of video playback, making battery life one of its major upgrades. It also supports fast wired charging with a compatible charger, along with MagSafe and Qi2 charging. Apple claims that the phone can reach 50% charge in around 30 minutes.

The Galaxy S26 Ultra features a 5,000mAh battery and can offer up to 31 hours of video playback. Samsung also supports 60W wired charging and 25W Qi2 wireless charging.

On paper, the iPhone 18 Pro Max has an edge with its new processor, variable-aperture camera and claimed longer battery life. However, the Galaxy S26 Ultra offers a sharper display, more flexible zoom hardware, faster charging and a significantly lower current retail price in India.
