September 15, 2026: Apple has officially entered the foldable smartphone market with the launch of its first foldable iPhone, the iPhone Duo. The new device takes on Samsung in the premium foldable segment, with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra as one of its key rivals. In this article, we compare the iPhone Duo and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra based on their India price, camera, display, processor, battery and other key specifications.

Display and Build Quality

Both foldable phones feature large, immersive displays and high-end protective materials. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 features a 7.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X inner screen with a 4:3 aspect ratio, 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, and a maximum peak brightness of 3,000 nits. Its 5.5-inch outer cover display features a 10:16 aspect ratio and a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. The phone features Flex Titanium Technology, Advanced Armour Aluminium, Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3 on the cover screen, Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the back panel, and an IP48 rating. The phone weighs 201 grams.

On the other hand, the Apple iPhone Duo features a 7.6-inch Super Retina XDR inner foldable display. It has a custom nano-texture finish to reduce visible creases and reflections. The inner screen is made of high-strength glass and custom polymer. Along with this, there is a 5.4-inch Super Retina XDR cover display. Both the outer screen and the rear panel are provided with Ceramic Shield protection. The phone uses an eSIM-only design, eliminating the physical SIM to create extra space for the battery.

Performance

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 runs on Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 'for Galaxy' chipset. It is paired with up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. On the other hand, the iPhone Duo runs on the A20 Pro chipset built on a 2nm process. It has a 6-core CPU with 2 super cores and 4 efficiency cores, a 7-core GPU, neural accelerators, and a dual Neural Engine setup for a total of 32 cores. It also integrates Apple's own C2 modem.

Software and AI Features

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 comes with One UI 9 based on Android 17. It has features like Dual Recording for creators. This allows you to shoot videos with the front and rear cameras simultaneously while viewing the preview on the cover display. The My FanCam feature also automatically tracks the selected subject and sets the frame according to the preferred aspect ratio.

Talking about the software and features of the Apple iPhone Duo, it runs on iOS 27 customised with the foldable screen in mind. Its main features include Split View multitasking, app pairing with a simple swipe, use when partially folded, and support for StandBy mode even when the phone is not charging.

Camera

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 has a dual 50MP rear camera, a 10MP cover display camera, and a 10MP inner display camera. It supports 8K video recording at 30fps. On the other hand, the iPhone Duo has a 48MP Fusion Main Camera with 2x optical zoom and a 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide Camera. The Centre Stage Camera is available on the front cover, and the under-display FaceTime camera on the inner screen. It supports a maximum of 4K/120fps video recording.

Battery and Charging

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 phone is equipped with a 4,800mAh battery. It supports 45W wired charging and 20W wireless charging. On the other hand, the iPhone Duo offers 'all-day battery life'. According to the company, 31 hours of video playback can be played on the inner display, 44 hours on the cover display, and up to 22 hours when using both screens simultaneously. It also supports MagSafe wireless charging. Apple claims that it can play up to 5 hours of video playback with just 5 minutes of charging.

Price In India:

The price of the 12GB + 256GB base variant of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 starts at Rs 1,79,999. The price of the 12GB + 512GB variant is Rs 1,99,999. And the price of the top-end 16GB + 1TB model is Rs 2,39,999. The phone is available in Graphite, Cream and Lavender colors. The Pistachio color will also be available as an online exclusive.

Now let's know about the price of the Apple iPhone Duo. The price of the 256GB base model of the phone starts at Rs 2,99,900. Its 512GB, 1TB and 2TB options are priced at Rs 3,24,900, Rs 3,74,900 and Rs 4,49,900 respectively. The phone will be available in Star White and Night Sky colours. The new smartphone will be available for pre-order from October 16 and sales will start from October 23.
