Reliance Jio is working on a 4G enabled laptop that is going to run on JioOS and is set to disrupt the laptop market by providing an economic alternative. Mukesh Ambani led Reliance had already disrupted the Wi-Fi and internet spectrum market by launching Jio, followed by Jio Phone that provided a cheaper alternative to smartphone. With the launch of JioBook the large screen device market will also see a welcome disruption.
JioBook will run on JioOS, which is a version of Android OS and will be 4G enabled. The large screen device will come with Jio’s suite of Apps that will be accessible through a Jio 4G LTE connection.
As per XDA, the global developer’s community that spotted JioBook firmware, the prototype of Jio’s laptop is currently using Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 665, and 11nm chipset that was announced in 2019. The inbuilt 4G LTE modem in this chipset will probably be used by jio to connect to Reliance’s Jio 4G network. In 2018, Reliance was in talks with Qualcomm to develop a low cost tablet for India that would run on the Windows 10 OS, powered by Jio 4G.
