LinkedIn– a business-oriented social networking site has launched a news aggregation service LinkedIn Today which went live on Thursday March10th; it aggregates the top news headlines and stories being shared by members of the site.

LinkedIn is popular for professional networking, with more than 90 million registered users, it span in more than 200 countries and territories worldwide.

The beta version of LinkedIn Today, which went live on Thursday, allows users to receive tailored news depending on their connections, industry and the broader global professional network.

LinkedIn members can customize the news they receive by choosing from up to 22 industries. They can also follow specific news sources from a range of outlets, including traditional sources such as the Financial Times to newer internet news blogs such as Mashable.

LinkedIn Today will help users benefit from “the collective wisdom of 90 million professionals”.

LinkedIn Today increases the networking site’s integration with Twitter by allowing users to tweet news direct to their Twitter account. LinkedIn first integrated with Twitter in 2009 when it shared status updates with the microblogging site.

LinkedIn has also announced the launch of its iPhone application version 3.6, which allows users to access LinkedIn Today via their iPhone and is available for download from the Apple App Store.
