Rajasthan’s first C –Band Doppler Weather Radar (DWR) has been installed in Meteorological Office at Jaipur yesterday. The radar has a capacity of observing weather up to 300 km. This development will certainly make it easy for flight passengers in getting prior information about delayed flights.
According to TOI, the radar is capable to forecast accurate weather condition and also has a special feature to recognize electrically charged clouds which is the main reason of delayed flights.
It would be easy to know the exact condition of weather, wind velocity etc. that was not possible with the earlier radar; this new radar will enfold the entire state including Udaipur and Jodhpur airports.
DWR is a Finnish (from Finland) radar and cost nearly Rs.8 crore. It can also check the precise location of cloud, expected time of rain, wind velocity etc. The information given by radar will prove helpful to avoid any damage to life and property of people if any natural calamity strikes.
“The Weather Forecast Department is planning to install such radar in Kota, Sriganganagar and Jodhpur too,” says S.S Singh, Director of Meteorological office.
