Triumph Bonneville T40 motorcycle launched in India with classic design and modern features

October 7, 2026: Triumph has launched the new Triumph Bonneville T40 in the Indian market. Although it is based on the 350cc single-cylinder platform developed in collaboration with Bajaj, the new Bonneville T40 has undergone several significant changes to its engine tuning, chassis and cycle parts. The company has combined the classic Bonneville design with modern electronic features.

Along with the new Bonneville T40, Triumph has also launched the less-featured Bonneville T4 in India. The T4 model is mechanically similar to the T40, but some electronic features have been omitted.

Price: Rs 2.80 Lakh

The Triumph Bonneville T40 is priced at Rs 2.80 lakh in India. The T40 Black is also priced at Rs 2.80 lakh. These prices are ex-showroom, Delhi. Meanwhile, the less-featured Bonneville T4 is priced at Rs 2.55 lakh.

Bookings for both models have begun. Deliveries of the Bonneville T40 will begin in November 2026, while deliveries of the Bonneville T4 will start from the second week of January 2027.

29hp Power From a 350cc Engine

The Bonneville T40 uses the same 350cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that is also seen in other single-cylinder Triumph models made in collaboration with Bajaj. However, several changes have been made to the engine for the T40.

The engine produces 29hp of power at 7,000rpm and 31.2Nm of torque at 5,500rpm. It has been tuned primarily to provide more torque in the low and mid-range.

The engine features a revised cylinder head, a new engine tune, a smaller-diameter throttle body, a dedicated camshaft and a new piston and exhaust system. The company claims that these changes will provide a smoother and more torque-rich riding experience.

The gearbox is a 6-speed unit. However, the Bonneville T40 uses taller overall gearing compared with other 350cc Triumph models.

New Rear Frame

The Bonneville T40's chassis has also undergone major changes. While the front section of the frame is somewhat related to other Bajaj-built Triumphs, the rear section is completely new.

The new frame has been designed to accommodate twin shock absorbers and a new tubular steel swingarm. Unlike other 350cc Triumph models, it does not use an aluminium swingarm. The Bonneville T40's subframe is also welded to the main frame, whereas the subframes on other 350cc Triumph models are bolted on.

43mm Forks and Twin Shocks

In terms of suspension, the Bonneville T40 gets 43mm straight-way-up gaitered telescopic forks at the front and twin shock absorbers at the rear. Both the front and rear suspension offer 130mm of travel.

Braking duties are handled by a 310mm front disc with a twin-piston axial caliper and a 255mm rear disc with a single-piston caliper.

The bike is also equipped with lean-sensitive ABS, which is designed to improve braking safety even when the motorcycle is cornering.

Spoked Wheels and a 14.5-Litre Fuel Tank

To maintain the classic Bonneville design, the T40 comes with wire-spoke wheels. It uses specially developed MRF tubed tyres, and there is no tubeless tyre option.

The front tyre size is 100/90-18, while the rear tyre measures 150/70-R18.

Due to the use of tubed tyres, repairing a puncture may take relatively longer. However, as an advantage, a centre stand is offered as standard.

The bike has a 14.5-litre fuel tank, which is the largest among the Bajaj-built Triumph models. The Bonneville T40 weighs 195kg.

790mm Seat Height

The seat height of the Bonneville T40 is 790mm. This means the bike should be relatively comfortable for shorter riders who want to keep their feet firmly on the ground.

With Triumph's optional low seat accessory, the seat height can be reduced further to 770mm.

Despite its relatively low seat height, the bike offers 165mm of ground clearance. This should reduce the chances of the lower section of the motorcycle scraping against speed breakers or uneven roads.

4-inch TFT Display and Five Riding Modes

One of the biggest modern features of the Bonneville T40 is its new 4-inch round colour TFT display. It also comes with more advanced switchgear.

The bike offers a total of five riding modes, including Road, Rain, Eco and two fully customisable modes. It also gets ABS, traction control and cruise control.

The display features a Heritage Mode that can give the screen layout the appearance of a traditional analogue meter. If you connect your smartphone through the Triumph Navigation app, navigation information can also be displayed on the screen.

Bonneville T4 Is Cheaper Than the T40

For buyers who find the Bonneville T40's Rs 2.80 lakh price tag too high, Triumph has introduced the Bonneville T4. It is a lower-spec version developed exclusively for the Indian market.

The T4 gets a relatively narrower 140-section rear tyre. It features a colour LCD display, turn-by-turn navigation, riding modes and dual-channel ABS.

However, the T40's cruise control and IMU are not available on the T4. The Bonneville T4 will be offered in three solid colours: green, black and red. It is priced at Rs 2.55 lakh.

Much More Expensive Than the Classic 350

The Triumph Bonneville T40 is priced significantly higher than its direct competitors. The Royal Enfield Classic 350 is priced between Rs 1.89 lakh and Rs 2.26 lakh, while the Honda CB350C is priced between Rs 2 lakh and Rs 2.05 lakh. The Jawa 350, meanwhile, is priced between Rs 2.11 lakh and Rs 2.22 lakh.

In comparison, the Bonneville T40's Rs 2.80 lakh price puts it firmly in the premium segment.

However, Triumph has positioned the motorcycle at this price point on the basis of features such as the 4-inch TFT display, five riding modes, cruise control, traction control, lean-sensitive ABS and the revised 350cc engine tuning, along with its classic Bonneville design.
