September 18, 2026: Vivo's new X500 Pro series is set to launch with MediaTek's latest flagship chipset, the Dimensity 9600 Pro. The company has confirmed that the Vivo X500 Pro and Vivo X500 Pro Max will be powered by the newly unveiled chipset. However, the regular Vivo X500 model in the same series is likely to feature a different processor.

The new Pro series will not only focus on powerful performance but will also place a strong emphasis on advanced camera capabilities, video recording and AI-based imaging technology. Vivo has highlighted several new imaging features, including high-frame-rate video recording and AI-powered autofocus, which are expected to be key highlights of the upcoming smartphones.

Vivo X500 Series to Launch on September 21

Vivo has confirmed that the Vivo X500 Pro, Vivo X500 Pro Max and the regular Vivo X500 will be launched on September 21. The standard Vivo X500 is expected to feature the MediaTek Dimensity 9600M chipset.

According to Vivo, one of the biggest highlights of the new Pro series will be its imaging capabilities. The upcoming smartphones will receive multiple camera and video upgrades, with a particular focus on high-frame-rate video recording and AI-based autofocus technology.

The new features are aimed at improving both photography and videography performance. Vivo is also expected to position the Pro models as premium smartphones with a strong focus on camera technology.

4K 120 FPS Video and 10-bit Log Support

The Vivo X500 Pro series will support 4K video recording at 120 FPS. The smartphones will also feature 10-bit log video technology, which can help videographers retain more colour information while recording footage.

Both smartphones will be equipped with Vivo's Imaging NPU 2.0. The company claims that the technology can deliver autofocus performance of up to 60 FPS. Alongside this, Vivo will use its own imaging chip, which will also support 4K Dolby Vision Portrait video recording.

These features are expected to make the Vivo X500 Pro and X500 Pro Max particularly appealing to users who prioritise smartphone videography. The combination of high-frame-rate recording, 10-bit log support and Dolby Vision is designed to offer more advanced video capabilities.

Advanced Display Technology Also Confirmed

The Vivo X500 Pro series will also feature advanced display technology. Vivo has confirmed support for Dimura 2.0 and 2K 10-bit log hardware. Both smartphones will run Vivo's new OriginOS 7 operating system. OriginOS 7 is based on Android 17 and is expected to bring new software features and improvements to the upcoming devices. With upgraded displays, a new operating system and advanced imaging hardware, the Pro models are expected to offer improvements across several areas of the user experience.

How Powerful Is the Dimensity 9600 Pro?

The MediaTek Dimensity 9600 Pro is the company's next-generation flagship smartphone chipset. It is built using a 2-nanometre process and can reach a maximum clock speed of 4.55GHz.

The octa-core chipset features two prime cores clocked at up to 4.55GHz and comes with a Mali G2 Ultra NX GPU for graphics performance. It also supports LPDDR6 RAM and UFS 5 storage.

For AI-related tasks, the chipset includes 1090 NPUs. With its 2-nanometre architecture and high processing capabilities, the Dimensity 9600 Pro is positioned as one of MediaTek's most advanced smartphone chipsets. Its performance could play an important role in the camera, gaming, AI and multitasking capabilities of Vivo's upcoming smartphones.

Oppo Phone Will Also Use the Same Chipset

Vivo is not the only smartphone manufacturer preparing to use the Dimensity 9600 Pro. Oppo has also confirmed that the chipset will power the Oppo Find X10 Pro Max.

Oppo's new smartphone is scheduled to launch in China on September 22, just one day after the Vivo X500 Pro series is expected to debut.

With the Vivo X500 Pro series launching on September 21 and the Oppo Find X10 Pro Max arriving the following day, competition around MediaTek's new 2-nanometre flagship chipset is expected to increase in the premium smartphone segment.
