Yamaha R15 M Discontinuation Buzz: Is the Sports Bike Being Dropped in India?
Speculation is growing that Yamaha may discontinue the R15 M in India. Here’s the latest update on bookings, dealership stock, prices and the new R2.
September 29, 2026: There is fresh speculation about the future of the Yamaha R15 M. Many media sources claim that Yamaha may soon stop selling this sports bike in India. However, bookings for the bike are still open, and R15 M stock is available at various dealerships across the country. As a result, there is no confirmation that the bike is being discontinued until Yamaha makes an official announcement.
The discussion about the future of the R15 M comes at a time when Yamaha has recently introduced several updates to the standard R15 V4. At the same time, the new Yamaha R2 has been launched in the market. As a result, the position of the R15 M in Yamaha's sports bike lineup has become somewhat complicated.
Yamaha R15 and R2 prices

The R15 M is priced noticeably higher than the R15 V4. On the other hand, the R2 is positioned as a more premium model.
What is in the R15 V4?
The Yamaha R15 V4 comes with a 155 cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine. This engine produces 18.4 PS of power and 14.2 Nm of torque. The engine is paired with a 6-speed gearbox. Yamaha has recently made the quickshifter standard on selected R15 V4 colours. The bike gets inverted forks and a linked monoshock. It also has 17-inch wheels and disc brakes at both the front and rear.
The R15 V4 is also well-equipped in terms of features. It gets a 4.2-inch LCD console, Bluetooth connectivity, turn-by-turn navigation, and call and SMS alerts. For safety, the bike comes with dual-channel ABS and traction control.
What else is available in the R15 M?
Mechanically, the R15 M uses the same platform and engine as the R15 V4. However, the main differences between the two models are in their features and design.
The R15 M gets a more modern-looking TFT console and different colour options. It also features a gold-coloured inverted fork, giving the bike a more premium appearance.
For these additional features and cosmetic upgrades, the R15 M costs around Rs 10,000 more than the standard R15 V4. However, with the launch of the new R2, this additional premium positioning is being questioned. The R2 comes with a significantly larger engine and additional technology at a higher price than the R15 M.
R15 M vs New R2
The Yamaha R2 is priced around Rs 39,970 higher than the R15 M. In return for the additional price, buyers get a larger 204 cc engine. The R2's engine produces 8.1 PS more power and 4.9 Nm more torque than the R15 M.
It also gets a bi-directional quickshifter and a larger 5-inch TFT console. The R2 comes with three riding modes: Street, Sport and Rain. As a result, its electronics package is also more advanced than that of the R15 M.
The R2 M is positioned as an even more premium version. It gets adjustable suspension along with adjustable clutch and front brake levers.
What is the future of the R15 M?
If the dealer source's claim is correct, Yamaha may be looking to create a clearer price and feature gap between the R15 V4 and the new R2. Currently, the R15 V4 is positioned as a relatively affordable sports bike, while the R2 sits in a more premium segment.
In this situation, the price difference between the R15 M and R15 V4 is not very large, while there is a noticeable performance and feature gap compared with the R2. As a result, it remains to be seen whether Yamaha will introduce a new model or variant to replace the R15 M in the future.
However, for now, bookings for the R15 M remain open and stock is also available at dealerships. Therefore, it cannot be said with certainty that the bike is being discontinued until Yamaha makes an official announcement.
