November 29, 2024 - The government has approved 40 tourism projects worth over Rs 3,295 crore to help develop lesser-known places into popular tourist destinations. These projects will be spread across 23 states.

The Ministry of Tourism asked state governments to submit ideas for tourist projects that could become famous and attract more visitors. By the deadline, October 15, 2024, 87 proposals worth over Rs 8,000 crore were submitted. After reviewing the proposals, the government selected 40 projects for funding.

Some of the places selected include

  • Rang Ghar, Sivasagar (Assam)

  • Matsyagandha Lake, Saharsa (Bihar)

  • Town Square, Porvorim (Goa)

  • Orchha (Madhya Pradesh)

The goal of this initiative is to provide long-term, interest-free loans to state governments to improve these places. This will not only boost tourism but also help local economies by creating jobs.

The states have two years to complete their projects, and the funds will be given to them by March 2026.
