Ahmedabad is preparing for its second high-speed rail project, connecting it with the national capital, Delhi. The bullet train service is set to enhance travel connectivity, having an average speed of 250 km/hour on an elevated corridor.
The project aims to reduce travel time between Ahmedabad and Delhi from 12 hours to a mere 3.5 hours. A detailed project report by the railways outlines the proposed route, which will include key stations such as Udaipur, Himmatnagar, Bhilwara, and Chittorgarh among others.
BJP has underlined its commitment to having connectivity across the country, stating plans for one bullet train each in the north, south, and east regions. The Ahmedabad-Delhi project forms a vital part of this initiative, joining five other high-speed rail projects led by the central government.
Railway officials project a nearly 900km elevated corridor alignment with the existing railway network, promising a reduction of around 9 hours in travel time between the two bustling cities. The train service is proposed to start from the Sabarmati station.
The proposed route will encompass nine major stations, including the terminals in Ahmedabad and Delhi. The train will select travel stations in Rajasthan, Gujarat and Haryana before reaching its destination in Delhi.
While the Ahmedabad-Mumbai bullet train service is on track for a launch by July 2026, the Ahmedabad-Delhi corridor represents a pivotal stride towards enhancing India's transportation network and fostering regional connectivity.
