An Indigo flight on the Muscat-Kochi-Delhi route is forced to make an emergency landing at Nagpur airport this morning following a bomb threat; all safe and nothing suspicious found on board
June 17, 2025 - The nightmare with Air India flights continue with another AI flight from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick was cancelled this afternoon. Initially, the reason believed was a technical snag but later an airline spokesperson said there was no snag but the cancellation was owing to airspace restrictions and additional precautionary checks.
"Flight AI159 from Ahmedabad to Gatwick has been cancelled today due to the unavailability of the aircraft, resulting from airspace restrictions and additional precautionary checks, leading to longer than usual turnaround of aircraft, and not due to any technical snag as claimed," said Air India.
Flight AI 159 was scheduled to depart at 1.10 pm. It was rescheduled to 3:00 pm. And then at around 1:45 pm, the airline announced that the service had been cancelled.
An Ahmedabad airport official said "We have been informed that the flight has been cancelled due to operational issues. The original flight from Ahmedabad to London, having code AI-171, resumed operation from Monday with a new flight code AI-159.” He, however, did not clarify what the “operational reason” was.
"We regret the inconvenience caused to our passengers and have made alternative arrangements to fly them to their destination. We are providing hotel accommodation and also offering full refunds on cancellations or complimentary rescheduling if opted by the passengers. Consequently, flight AI170 from London Gatwick to Amritsar of 17 June stands cancelled," an Air India statement added.
A spate of flight cancellations or diversions have followed the tragic crash of Air India flight AI171 in Ahmedabad on June 12 killing 241 of the 242 passengers on board and at least 33 on the ground.
Meanwhile, in another news update, early this morning, an Indigo flight operating on the Muscat-Kochi-Delhi route was forced to make an emergency landing at Nagpur airport following a bomb threat. All passengers disembarked safely and a thorough search was carried out of the aircraft ((Flight 6E 2706). Nothing suspicious was found, according to the police.
