Udaipur, March 19, 2025 - The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has started constructing the Likaru-Mig La-Fukche road in Eastern Ladakh, which will become the world’s highest motorable road at 19,400 feet once completed. Currently, Umling La holds the record at 19,024 feet. The new 64 km road near Hanle in the Demchok sector will improve access to the Line of Actual Control (LAC) and help the armed forces.
A team of BRO engineers has already started work. The road will also boost the socio-economic development of nearby villages. The project has a budget of Rs 520 crore. The area experiences extreme cold, with winter temperatures dropping to -40°C.
