Flight AI315 from Hong Kong to Delhi returns and lands safely in Hong Kong after pilot detects a technical issue; Air India arranges alternative transport for passengers
June 16 2025 - An Air India flight coming to Delhi from Hong Kong had to make an unscheduled return after its pilot suspected a technical snag mid-flight.
Flight AI315 was a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner and was on its way to Delhi. It had departed from Hong Kong at 12:16 pm local time on Monday. It was to land in Delhi at 12:20 pm IST but was turned back a little more than an hour later.
According to a statement released by Air India, "AI315 operating from Hong Kong to Delhi on 16 June 2025 returned to Hong Kong shortly after takeoff due to a technical issue. The flight landed safely at Hong Kong and is undergoing checks as a matter of abundant precaution. Alternative arrangements have been planned to fly the passengers to their destination Delhi at the earliest.”
The nature of the snag is yet not known.
Earlier, on June 15 a Lufthansa flight LH752 from Frankfurt to Hyderabad had to make a U turn after it was denied permission to land following a reported bomb threat.
These flight jitters come in the wake of an extremely tragic and heart-rending incident on June 12 when an Air India 787-8 Dreamliner carrying 242 people on board crashed within seconds of take-off killing 241 on board plus around 29 on the ground.
