The Asarwa-Chittorgarh MEMU train was flagged off from Himatnagar station on April 19; fourth on the Udaipur-Ahmedabad track to be powered by an electric engine
Udaipur, April 19, 2025 - The Diesel Electric Multiple Unit (DEMU) train running on the Udaipur-Ahmedabad broad-gauge route from Asarwa Junction in Ahmedabad to Chittorgarh will now be operated as a Mainline Electric Multiple Unit (MEMU) train.
This MEMU train was jointly flagged off this afternoon from Himatnagar station in Gujarat by the Divisional Railway Manager of Western Railway, the local Member of Parliament, MLA and the Chairperson of Himatnagar Municipality.
In the MEMU trains, 3 to 4 coaches are equipped with traction motors and are called motor coaches. The coaches without traction motors are referred to as trailer coaches. From today, passenger services will operate using MEMU trains instead of the previously used DEMU rakes under Western Railway.
It is worth noting that this is the fourth train on the Udaipur-Ahmedabad track to be powered by an electric engine instead of diesel. Earlier, the Udaipur City-Asarwa-Udaipur City, Kota Junction-Asarwa-Kota Junction, and Indore-Asarwa-Indore trains were also converted to electric engines. In addition, the Agra Cantt-Asarwa Superfast Special, operating until June 30, 2025, is also running with an electric engine.
