Udaipur, Dec 11, 2025 - MP Dr Manna Lal Rawat met Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Wednesday (December 10) and requested that the proposed railway yard at Umarda be constructed on government land further ahead. He also asked for the doubling of the Chittorgarh–Udaipur railway line, starting a Vande Bharat train from Udaipur to Surat, and operating more trains connecting Mewar to South India.

The Railway Minister assured him that these demands would be seriously considered.

Dr Rawat requested that the proposed Udaipur-Asarwa Vande Bharat be extended up to Surat. He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently inaugurated the electrification of the Bikaner-Udaipur-Ahmedabad railway track. With the electrification work complete, residents of south Rajasthan can soon expect direct train services from Udaipur to Surat, Mumbai and South India.

Dr Rawat explained that the proposed Vande Bharat train from Udaipur (Rajasthan) to Asarwa (Gujarat) is scheduled to depart Udaipur at 6:10 am and reach Asarwa at 10:25 am. It will then stop at Asarwa for more than seven hours before returning at 5:45 pm. He said extending this train to Surat would be more productive as lakhs of traders and common passengers from Mewar and Vagad frequently travel to Surat and nearby regions.

He informed the Minister that Udaipur is a major global tourist destination, attracting large numbers of domestic and foreign tourists year-round. Considering the increasing passenger load, railway services must be expanded. While doubling work on the Ajmer-Chanderiya route is underway, doubling the Udaipur-Chanderiya line would greatly benefit the region.

Demand to improve train connectivity from Udaipur to other cities. The MP listed several long-pending demands:

  • Udaipur–Yoganagari Rishikesh (19809/10):
  • Runs only three days a week; should be extended to Dehradun, run daily and have more coaches.
  • Udaipur–Banda Terminus (22902/01):
  • Also runs thrice weekly; should run daily and be rerouted via Ahmedabad.
  • Agra-Asarwa Express (01919/20):
  • Previously operated with almost 100% occupancy; should be restarted permanently.
  • Ajmer–Kathgodam (Ranikhet Express 15013/14):
  • Should be extended up to Udaipur.
  • Gujarat Mail (12901/02):
  • Runs daily between Mumbai-Ahmedabad-Mumbai. After reaching Ahmedabad at 5:50 am, it waits until 10:50 pm for the return. It should be extended to Udaipur.

Land Acquisition for Umarda Railway Yard

Dr Rawat said that for the railway yard proposed in Umra station (Umarda village), 13.7401 hectares of inhabited land is being acquired, affecting many tribal and low-income families dependent on agriculture and local livelihood. This acquisition may force relocation and impact nearly 300 landholders. He suggested alternative land options near the station to prevent displacement of villagers.
