Udaipur, July 1, 2025 - The dream of a bullet train for Udaipur city is likely to come true soon. A proposal to extend the Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed corridor all the way to Delhi is underway, according to a News 18 report. If finalised, then the Mumbai-Ahmedabad track will connect to Delhi via Udaipur-Ajmer-Jaipur-Alwar.

In February 2025, during the winter session of Parliament, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav had said in a written reply to a question that a detailed DPR of Delhi-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail Corridor has been prepared. The feasibility of its report is being studied by the Ministry of Railways. However, the DPR was not public.

This high speed corridor will be approximately about 878 km long on which the bullet train will run at a speed of 350 km per hour.  The Mumbai-Ahmedabad corridor will be 508-km long on which work currently is going on at a fast pace.

Under the Delhi-Ahmedabad bullet train project, 75 percent of it will pass through Rajasthan. A 64 km long high-speed trial track for the bullet train is being laid in the State under Jodhpur Railway Division at a cost of Rs 800 crore. It is being built near Sambhar lake, one kilometre away from the Nawan town of Nagaur district.

The bullet train will cover a distance of 657 km in Rajasthan passing through 335 villages of seven districts of Rajasthan - Alwar, Jaipur, Ajmer, Bhilwara, Chittorgarh, Udaipur and Dungarpur. The proposed track will start from Dwarka Sector 21 in Delhi. It will enter Gurugram at Chauma, then enter through Manesar and Rewari from Shahjahanpur border of Alwar. Parallel to National Highway 48, it will go to Ahmedabad via Jaipur, Ajmer, Bhilwara, Chittorgarh, Dungarpur.

Udaipur will benefit hugely once the Delhi-Ahmedabad bullet train becomes a reality. As per reports, a total of 127 km track will be built in Udaipur district, passing over five rivers and through eight tunnels. 11 stations are proposed between Delhi and Ahmedabad, of which nine will be built in Rajasthan including Udaipur, Dungarpur (Kherwada), Bhilwara, Shahjahanpur, Chittorgarh, Ajmer, Vijaynagar, Jaipur and Alwar (Behror). Jodhpur, however, will not fall on the bullet train route.
