Udaipur, March 19, 2025 - The Government of Canada has removed the field of study requirement for the Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) for international students in colleges. This rule was introduced in 2024 but did not apply to universities. The CEO of the Canadian Bureau for International Education, Larissa Bezo, confirmed that graduates from college degree programs no longer need to meet a specific field of study requirement to qualify for PGWP.
Who Can Apply?
Applies to students who applied for a study permit after November 1, 2024, for a bachelor’s or master’s program in a college.
Students who started studies before November 1, 2024, face no restrictions based on the field of study.
Flight school graduates can apply without language or study field restrictions.
Programs under curriculum licensing agreements (after May 15, 2024) do not qualify for PGWP.
Language Proficiency Requirement
University graduates (bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral): CLB 7 or NCLC 7
College program graduates: CLB 5 or NCLC 5
Work Permit Duration
8 months to 2 years program: Work permit matches program duration.
2 years or longer program: Eligible for a three-year work permit.
If multiple programs are completed, total duration may be considered.
Passport validity must cover the full PGWP period. If the passport expires earlier, students can apply for an extension after renewing their passport.
