Canada New Visa Rule

Udaipur, February 26, 2025 - Canada has introduced new immigration rules from February 2025, which may impact thousands of foreign students, including many from India. These rules give border officials more power to cancel or reject visas. Under the new regulations, Canadian border officials can now cancel or reject student and work visas at any time. If they believe a person will not leave Canada after their visa expires, they can deny entry.

Affected individuals will receive official notices from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) via email and their IRCC accounts.

Uncertainty for Indian Students

Indian students are the largest group affected, with around 4.2 lakh Indian nationals currently studying in Canada. The new rules create uncertainty for them, making it harder to stay or enter the country. If a person’s visa is rejected, they will be stopped at the airport and sent back home. If a visa is canceled while they are in Canada, they will have to leave within a set deadline.

There is no clarity on whether students or workers will get refunds for tuition fees, loans, rent, or mortgages if their visas are canceled. Canada had already shut down the Student Direct Stream (SDS) visa program in November 2024, making it more difficult for students to get visas.
