Delhi Airport Glitch: Flight Operations 'Improving' After Day of Chaos
AMSS malfunction causes more than 100 flight delays and 10 cancellations on Friday; passengers advised to check with airlines
Nov 8, 2025 - Flight operations at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) in Delhi are said to be gradually improving nearly 36 hours after a major technical glitch hit the Automatic Message Switching System (AMSS) in the Air Traffic Control (ATC) system.
A statement issued by Delhi Airport Saturday morning, said, "The technical issue which affected the Automatic Message Switching System (AMSS) that supports the Air Traffic Control flight planning process, is gradually improving. Airline operations at Delhi Airport are returning to normal, and all concerned authorities are working diligently to minimise any inconvenience caused. Passengers are advised to stay in touch with their airlines for latest flight update."
According to Flightradar 24, a flight tracking website, 129 flights (53 arrivals and 76 departures) have been delayed on Saturday - as compared to the nearly 800 delays witnessed on Friday, November 7.
On Friday, flight operations were severely affected owing to the technical malfunction with more than 100 flights delayed and 10 flights being cancelled, causing inconvenience to hundreds. According to the Airport Authority of India (AAI), flights could only depart late because manual operations had to be used owing to the technical fault in the AMSS.
The disruption at Delhi also impacted flight schedules in Jaipur, Varanasi, Lucknow, Chandigarh and Mumbai, as these flights are connected to Delhi’s operations. Here in Udaipur, eight flights were delayed on Friday because of disruption at Delhi Airport. Flights from Delhi to Udaipur and two Udaipur-Mumbai flights were delayed while the evening flight from Jaipur to Udaipur was cancelled.
The issue began around 8:30 am and was resolved by approximately 9:30 pm the same day. By 9:30 pm, AAI confirmed that the technical issue had been resolved. Some residual delays remained but those were owing to the backlog of flights.
Delhi Airport, which is one of India's busiest airports, handles more 1,500 flights daily to domestic and international destinations.
