DGCA Bans Power Bank Charging During Flights

Charging of mobiles and laptops using power banks during flights will not be allowed owing to lithium battery fire risks

 |

Jan 5, 2026 - Passengers will no longer be allowed to charge mobile phones, laptops or any other electronic gadgets using power banks during flights. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has imposed this restriction. In addition, power banks cannot be charged using the power sockets installed in aircraft seats.

This decision has been taken in view of the increasing incidents of lithium batteries overheating and catching fire. Power banks and spare batteries are permitted only in hand baggage and must not be stored in overhead bins. They are already prohibited in checked-in baggage.
