No FASTag? Digital Now Gets Cheaper than Cash Payment
New rule comes into effect from November 15 across national highways
Nov 15, 2025 - The Central Government has provided relief to vehicles plying on national highways from today, November 15, 2025. As per new rules issued under the National Highway Fee (Rates and Collection) Rules, 2025, now, vehicles without FASTag will not have to pay double fee at toll plazas if they make the payment through digital methods. Instead, they will be allowed to pass by paying only 25% more than the prescribed toll rate.
For example, if a vehicle with a valid FASTag is required to pay Rs 100, then paying in cash would cost Rs 200, but paying through UPI or any digital mode will cost Rs 125. Therefore, now drivers on the national highway will have three options of paying the toll fee:
- Pay via FASTag at the normal rate
- Pay in cash and double the fee
- Pay 1.25 times the fee via UPI or digital payment.
