Flight was coming to Mumbai from Adis Ababa; seven taken ill after aircraft loses pressurisation at 33,000 ft
June 28, 2025 - An Ethiopian Airlines Dreamliner flight on its way from Adis Ababa to Mumbai had to make an emergency landing in the city owing to mid-air cabin depressurisation. The aircraft was cruising at 33,000 feet when the cabin depressurisation occurred. The pilots swiftly descended to a lower altitude, according to Flightradar 24 data.
Seven passengers required medical aid on landing of which one had to be hospitalised.
The incident occurred on flight ET640 on a Boeing 787 Dreamliner on Friday, June 27, when the aircraft was flying over the Arabian Sea.
This comes on the heels of an incident on June 23 on the Air India AI130 Heathrow-Mumbai flight after 11 people felt dizzy and nauseous. Air India is currently investigating this occurrence.
As per aviation norms and requirement, an aircraft has to be sealed and pressurised with conditioned air and oxygen when flying in order to be able to adapt to altitudes with low oxygen levels.
