The Mewar Festival is being hosted at Udaipur from 24-26 March 2023. This festival, usually held at the onset of spring season, is known to showcase the culture and traditions of Rajasthan.
The key stakeholders looking after the administration and logistics of the Mewar Festival held a meeting on 18 March to finalise the finer points of the event. The meeting was chaired by the District Collector of Udaipur, Tara Chand Meena.
In her interaction with UdaipurTimes, Shikha Saxena, the Deputy Director at the Regional Tourism Office at Udaipur shared the itenary of the event. She also informed that the participation of the foreign tourists will be one of the salient features of this event, as foreign tourists have begun their visits to Udaipur once again after the long COVID lockdown gap. One of the competitions hosted the two day event will involve dressing up the foreign tourists in traditional costumes. Winners will be awarded. This participative approach will ensure that these foreign tourists take back visual memories of the region. This year, a team of German tourists as well as social media influencers are also expected to visit Udaipur during the two day event, she added.

Interestingly, the Mewar Festival will begin immediately after the second G20 Sustainable Finance Working Group meeting that is being held in Udaipur from 21-13 March. It is expected that time permitting, participants at the G20 meeting will also taste the flavours of Mewar during the initial part of the festival.
Shikha Saxena also added that the during the meeting, the stakeholders discussed the possibility of another event like the Kotda Tribal Festival which was held in 2022, to coincide with celebrations during the World Tourism Day on 27 September 2023.
